Statistics Show Drop In California’s Hate Crimes Totals, But The Problem Still An Issue Statewide, and Locally

Some just released statistics from the State Attorney General’s office

show that the number of hate crimes in California is dramatically dropping.

The report released by Attorney General Kamala Harris shows the number of reported hate crimes dropped 12% from 2011 to 2012.

Over the last ten years, the overall number has dropped by 38%.

But, the problem has far from vanished.

930 crimes classified as hate crimes, over issues like race, religion, and sexual orientation occurred statewide in 2012.

Locally, eight of the crimes were reported in Santa Barbara County in 2012, and seven in San Luis Obispo County.
