San Luis Obispo County Supervisors Again Set To Look At North County Water Controversy

Posted on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 12:14am

San Luis Obispo County Supervisors are again set to dive into the controversy surrounding the groundwater shortage in the northern part of the county.

In the face of dwindling underground water in the Paso Robles area, supervisors earlier this year imposed an emergency moratorium on the use of the water for new agricultural planting.

Growers would have to be able to offset water used by a one to one ratio.

The plan does allow for exemptions, and so far, more than a dozen growers have sought them.

County Supervisors today are expected to set criteria which could be used to establish who might be eligible for exemptions.

Most of the applicants for relief from the new county regulation are vineyards.
