Northbound 101 Freeway Reopened In Camarillo Following Closure Due To Suspicious Device

Posted on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 2:20pm

The northbound 101 Freeway was briefly closed in Ventura County, after a suspicious device was found on the freeway.

The freeway was closed just after 1 p.m., about a half mile from the Carmen Drive offramp.  Traffic was backed up for miles, as a member of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was sent to the scene.

The Sheriff’s Department’s Eric Buschow says the device was actually rigged to look like explosives, but wasn’t the real thing.  Investigators are now trying to figure out its source.

The freeway was reopened just after 1:30.
