Brush Fire In Ventura County Now 80% Contained

Posted on Friday, November 15, 2013 8:56am

A brush fire which caused a scare in Ventura County is now 80% contained.

The 60 acre fire started on around the 6800 block of Wheeler Canyon Road around 11 yesterday morning.

Crews were on the fire lines overnight, and more than 100 firefighters are on the fire lines today. Ventura County fire officials say the estimated amount of acres burned dropped from 100 acres last night to around 60 today, because more accurate mapping of the fire zone was able to place after daybreak.

There were voluntary evacuations in the Wheeler Canyon area yesterday afternoon, but the recommendation was lifted last night.  No homes have been damaged.

Two firefighters had to be treated for heat exhaustion.

Firefighters had to deal with a second fire in Hammond Canyon yesterday afternoon, but a team flown to the spot was able to put it out before it could spread.
