A Santa Barbara County man will spend the rest of his life in prison, after entering a guilty plea to a first degree murder charge for the August, 2011 murder of his estranged wife.

Prosecutors say Isaac Martinez first threatened to kill his wife, and 14 year old son, and then five days later shot to death Maria Martinez in the parking lot of a Santa Maria convenience store. They say he hit the 35 year old woman in the head with the gun, and then shot her twice in the chest in broad daylight.

He was arrested by authorities in Arizona the day after the killing.

Under terms of the plea deal, when he’s formally sentenced March 25th he will receive a 75 years to life sentence, but will have to serve 100% of the time before he is eligible for a parole hearing.
