Controversy Over Proposed New Housing Development Next To South Coast Landmark Settled

Posted on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 8:11am

Everyone agrees the housing is needed, but concern about new traffic, and parking issues led to controversy over a proposed new apartment complex in downtown Santa Barbara.

The Arlington Village Project calls for building 33 apartments, and two commercial units on a parking lot next to the Arlington Theater.

A key Santa Barbara commission approved the project, but another developer opening its new condo complex on the other side of the theater appealed the decision.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports the Santa Barbara City Council heard hours of testimony before settling the issue last night.
