Masive Manure Fire Down, But Not Out In Ventura County

Posted on Friday, October 25, 2013 7:04am

More than a week and a half after a stinky manure fire first started in Ventura, firefighters are continuing to monitor its smoldering remnants.

The fire broke out October 16th at a closed mushroom farm on the 4400 block of Olivas Park Drive.

With the manure, and hay piled more than 10 to 15 feet high over parts of the acre and a half site, it was difficult for firefighters to get to the blaze which had burned down into the massive pile.

Heavy equipment was used to spread out the manure, and get to the blaze.

A sprinkler system was installed to pump more than a million gallons a day of recycled water onto the massive pile.

The fire was declared fully contained several days ago, but firefighters are still monitoring the situation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
