Ventura County Supervisors Approve Reduced Version Of Controversial Mine Expansion Proposal

Posted on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 7:45am

It’s a controversy in Ventura County which pitted one city against another, and had residents and officials upset.

A mine in the mountains between Fillmore, and Moorpark sought an extension, and expansion of its 15 year long operating permit with the county.

The County Planning Commission reviewed, and approved the project, but the City of Moorpark appealed the decision to County Supervisors.

The city cited concerns like traffic, noise, and pollution caused by big rigs passing from the mine through their community.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports a marathon hearing led to a final decision on the issue, which is a scaled down version of the expansion plans, with some added mitigation measures.
