The State Coastal Commission has approved emergency work to stabilize a deteriorating Central Coast pier, so it can survive upcoming winter storms.
Parts of the Cayucos Pier have been closed since mid-summer, because of missing, or damaged pilings.
Temporary measures could include the placing of steel bracing on pilings to help keep them in place.
A restoration of the pier could involve the replacement of dozens of damaged pilings.
San Luis Obispo County has a contract with the state to handle maintenance for the pier, but doesn’t have the money to do what could be a million dollar plus rebuilding project.
County Supervisors later this month are expected to decide whether to use reserves, in contingency funds just to make the hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency repairs to get through the winter.
