Former Prison Guard In Santa Barbara County Convicted Of Second Degree Murder

Posted on Thursday, October 10, 2013 3:04pm

A former federal prison guard in Lompoc has been found guilty of second degree murder in the killing of a fellow guard.

Timothy McNally was convicted of the March, 2012 shooting death of Gary Bent in a motel room.

It’s the second trial for McNally.  A just was unable to reach a verdict in the case earlier this year, and a mistrial was declared.

McNally and Bent were friends.  McNally contended the fellow guard had been shot by accident, but he didn’t report it to police.

Toxicology results show that both men had been drinking, and using drugs before the fatal shooting.
