Fire Danger Closes Parts Of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area To Public

The brushfire threat from Santa Ana winds, and low humidity has resulted in the closure of a major National Park unit in the region to the public for the weekend.

The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area’s National Park Service lands were was closed to the public as of 7 a.m. Friday, and will remain closed until 8 p.m. Sunday.

The closure affects hiking trails, and other areas of the 150,000 acre park in Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties.

It’s the largest urban park in the nation.
