Ventura County Brushfire Pushes Already Rare Plant To Edge Of Extinction

Verity's liveforever (Dudleya verityi)

A rare plant only found in Ventura County has been pushed to the edge of extinction by a massive brush fire.

The Springs Fire last May charred 24,000 acres of land, including the habitat for a tiny little succulent in the mountains near Camarillo.

Researchers who were already studying the plant says they hope nature will help the species rebound, and if that doesn’t work, may have one last ditch step they can take to try to keep the plants from disappearing forever.
