String Of Suspicious Fires In Ventura Under Investigation

Posted on Monday, September 30, 2013 12:14am

Authorities are investigating a string of suspicious fires in Ventura.

At least eight suspicious fires were reported over the weekend.

Between 12:30, and 4 a.m. Saturday, there were four small fires which appeared to be arson in the city.  There was a small brush fire at Santa Clara, at Oak Street; a vehicle fire on the 200 block of East Main Street; a vegetation fire on Valdez Alley; and a dumpster fire which caused some damage to a market on Ventura Avenue.

Then, four small blazes happened in less than an hour last night.  The first fire involved a vehicle, on the 500 block of Ventura Avenue, just after 5 p.m. Sunday. There was a small fence, and brush fire on the 200 block of Wall Street, a couch fire in a city lot on Palm Street, and a small brush fire near the lot.

All of the fires were quickly extinguished.

Ventura firefighters, and police are investigating the fires, which they say were suspicious in origin.  They aren’t releasing the details of how they think the fires started.
