New Air Quality Watch Issued For Part Of Central Coast

Posted on Monday, September 30, 2013 1:52pm

An air quality watch has been issued for a part of the Central Coast, which means some people should temporarily be avoiding outdoor activities.

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, and the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District issued the watch for the Santa Maria area for now, through Wednesday.

Levels of particles recorded in the Santa Maria surpassed state standards six times in the last seven days.  While the issue is frequently linked to high winds, it’s not always the case, and can vary by location, and time of day.

The watch means people with heart and lung disease, children, and older adults should limit time outdoors, and avoid outdoor exercise.
