Preliminary work is already underway, but groundbreaking ceremonies are set to take place tomorrow morning for a project to renovate, and expand a major South Coast library.
UC Santa Barbara’s Library will get its first overall makeover in more than three decades.
More than 90,000 square feet of library space will be renovated, and 60,000 square feet of room will be added.
There will be a new facility for the library’s Department of Special Collections, a new arts library, and about 20% more study space than exists now.
State bond money is paying for the $76 million dollar project, but the library is trying to raise additional money for equipment, and library resources.
Plans call for the project to be completed around the end of 2015.
