Governor Signs Into Law Mobile Home Legislation Authored By Santa Barbara County State Senator

Posted on Thursday, September 26, 2013 4:44pm

The governor has signed into law legislation authored by a State Senator from Santa Barbara County intended to give mobile home residents more of a say when their parks are subdivided.

SB 510 gives local government the ability to veto the conversion of mobile home parks into ones which are subdivided, with park owners selling the spaces to individual tenants.  The process is known as a “condo conversion.”  But, the way current laws are written, up until now residents didn’t have a say in whether their parks could be converted, and the role of local governments in the process was legally unclear.

Democratic Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara authored the legislation, saying it will end costly legal fights over unwanted park subdivisions, because it gives local governments a legal say in such plans.
