Governor Signs Into Law Bill Authored By Santa Barbara County State Senator To Strengthen Paid Family Leave

Posted on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 9:18am

The governor has signed into law authored by a State Senator from Santa Barbara County which will strengthen paid family leave.

Senate Bill 770 will allow workers to receive benefits while caring for seriously ill grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, and in-laws.

It was authored by Democratic Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara, who says it will help workers dealing with family emergencies, without putting an extra financial burden on the employee, or employer.  The paid leave will be covered by money already deducted from paychecks through the State Disability Insurance system.

The new law will take effect on July 1, 2014.
