Legislation by State Senator From Santa Barbara County To Strengthen Family Leave On Governor’s Desk

Posted on Monday, September 9, 2013 9:30am

A bill by a State Senator from Santa Barbara County which is intended to strengthen paid family leave is now on the Governor’s desk, awaiting his consideration.

Senate Bill 770 would expand paid leave from caring for a parent, child, spouse, or registered domestic partner to include seriously ill grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, and in-laws.

Democratic Senator Hanna-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara authored the legislation, which she says won’t cost employers, or employees anything additional, because it’s funded with employee payroll deductions through the State Disability Insurance System.

It had already been passed by the State Assembly, and was just approved by the State Senate, which moves it to the Governor’s office for final consideration.
