DUI Arrests Up In Santa Barbara County During End Of Summer Sweep

Posted on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 2:41pm

A major effort  to get DUI drivers off the road in Santa Barbara County during the last two weeks of the summer holiday season led to a slight increase in arrests this year.

The “Avoid The 12″ campaign from August 16th through September 2nd ended up with 171 DUI arrests, up from 164 during the same period in 2012.  Authorities say there were three DUI related deaths during the campaign period this year, compared to none during the same time last year.

The effort is a coalition of 12 law enforcement agencies in the county working together on DUI enforcement related efforts, ranging from sobriety checkpoints, to getting extra officers on the streets during holidays, and for special events like Super Bowl Sunday.
