Man Shot to Death In Encounter With Santa Barbara Police Identified

Authorities are now identifying a man shot to death in a confrontation with Santa Barbara Police.

An officer tried to stop a man walking near Victoria, and De la Vina Streets at around 11:30 Sunday night.  Department investigators say the man was in possession of a large fixed blade knife, and refused to comply with multiple orders to stop, and drop the weapon.

The officer then opened fire, fatally wounding the man, who’s being identified as Brian Tacadena of Santa Barbara.  People in the area say they heard multiple shots fired.  The 46 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police haven’t released any other additional details about the officer  involved shooting yet.
