San Luis Obispo County Supervisors Take Steps To Deal With Groundwater Crisis

Posted on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 12:57am

San Luis Obispo County Supervisors passed an emergency ordinance to try to cope with a groundwater crisis in the northern part of the county.

Following a marathon meeting yesterday, supervisors approved a 45 day freeze on new development, or the planting of crops which need irrigation in the Paso Robles groundwater basin unless the water use is offset on a one to one ratio.

The freeze can be extended if deemed necessary.

Supervisors also directed staff to expedite new well drilling, and told them to set the stage  for formation of a groundwater management district.
