Murder Suspect Firing Shots In Simi Valley Neighborhood Fatally Wounded By Police

Posted on Sunday, August 25, 2013 1:32pm

Detectives say they’re trying to figure out why a man murdered his mother, and then went on a shooting rampage in a Simi Valley neighborhood, before being shot and killed by police.

Just before 5 p.m. Saturday, a man told Simi Valley police his brother had called him, and confessed to shooting their mother.  When officers went to the woman’s home on the 1100 block of Mellow Lane in Simi Valley, they found the house on fire.  After Ventura County firefighters put out the fire, they found the body of a woman inside.

While officers were at the scene, they received a report of a man in the Bridal Path neighborhood driving around on a tractor, and firing shots.  Officers confronted the man, fatally shooting 29 year old Ryan Carnan.  Police say had the officers not acted quickly, a number of people would have been killed, or wounded.
