A man has been arrested in San Luis Obispo County for allegedly shining a laser at a CHP helicopter.
The chopper was flying over the San Miguel area around 10:30 Tuesday night when the craft was hit by a laser beam.
The pilot was able to steer the craft away safely.
The CHP called the San Luis Obispo County Sherriff’s Department for help in locating the source of the beam, and it led to the arrest of 28-year-old Emilio Montenegro. He was arrested for discharging a laser at an occupied aircraft, as well as for some other unconnected charges.
The concern about lasers being point at aircraft is that they might temporarily blind the pilot, and lead to a crash.
