Actor Dick Van Dyke Has Brush With Death When Car Catches On Fire On 101 Freeway

Posted on Monday, August 19, 2013 4:04pm

Actor Dick Van Dyke says someone was definitely looking out for him, after his sports car caught on fire on the 101 Freeway.

It happened on the eastbound 101, near Parkway Calabasas in the Calabasas area at around two this afternoon.  The 87 year old actor says the car started making a noise, and when he pulled over, it started smoking.

Someone else stopped, and pulled him out of the car as he was on his cell phone, calling for help.  The car then burst into flames, and was totally destroyed.

The actor was unhurt.  No one else was in the vehicle at the time.

The fire caused a big backup on the freeway for more than two hours.
