Park Damaged By Brush Fire Last May in Ventura County Reopens

Posted on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 7:44pm

A park damaged by the destructive Springs brush fire in Ventura County earlier this year has reopened.

Cal State Channel Islands is allowing people to once again use hiking trails in University Park.

Officials are warning people to stay on established trails.

The fire in May damaged more than two thirds of the 360 acre plus park.

The blaze burned some 24,000 acres of land, going from the Conejo Grade all the way to the ocean.  No homes were destroyed by the fire.

The exact cause was never determined, but investigators ruled out arson, and believe it may have been a spark from a passing vehicle on the 101 Freeway which triggered the inferno.
