The City of Santa Barbara says it’s reached a settlement with a major landlord in the community over a number of building code violations.
City officials say under the deal, a court appointed representative will oversee the operation, and maintenance of the approximately 100 residential and commercial properties owned by Dario Pini.
Pini will also pay $35,000 in civil penalties.
The settlement of a November, 2012 suit filed by the city gives the court ordered administrator supervision of the properties for five years, and with the authority to require regular meetings with city staff, Pini, and Pini’s staff to resolve problems.
City officials say violations ranged from using unpermitted areas as housing units, to a lack of smoke detectors.
