Former Central Coast High School Student Gets Jail Sentence For Raping Classmate

Posted on Friday, July 26, 2013 11:07am

A former private high school student in Santa Barbara County will spend a year behind bars, after being convicted of repeatedly raping a classmate.

Prosecutors say Shane Villalpando was a student at Santa Maria’s St. Joseph High School in 2012 when he raped a 14 year old girl multiple times.

They say the now 19 year old man tried to talk her out of reporting the incidents to authorities.

A jury convicted him of three counts of unlawful sex with a minor.

It deadlocked on another charge, over whether it was rape of an intoxicated person.

In order to prevent a retrial on that count, Villalpando agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge, and accept a one year jail sentence, with five years probation.
