Details Of Special Election Over Water Controversy In Ventura County Announced

Posted on Friday, July 26, 2013 3:57pm

Details of a special election over a water controversy in Ventura County have just been announced,

Ojai area customers of the Golden State Water Company will decide whether they’re willing to tax themselves to pay for efforts to try to buy the system, and have it run under the umbrella of the Casitas Municipal Water District.

The Golden State customers are upset with what they say are unreasonable water prices, and hope a takeover of the system will mean lower rates.

The Casitas District says it will pursue the issue, but that the water customers have to pay all costs.

Golden State says because it isn’t a non-profit government entity, its costs are reasonable, and officials say they aren’t interested in selling the system.

The casitas District would then be forced to try to take the water system in court, using eminent domain laws.

Ventura County Clerk Recorder/Registrar of Voters Mark Lunn says about half of those eligible to vote in the August 27th election can vote by mail.

There will also be polling place for those who want to vote in person.
