Santa Barbara County Court Officials Trying To Figure Out Where To Hold Murder Trial In Case With 11 Defendants

Posted on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 8:43am

Court officials in Santa Barbara County are scrambling to try to figure out how to handle a murder trail with 11 defendants.

Because of the large number of people accused in the torture, and murder of Anthony Iberra, traditional courtrooms at the Santa Maria Courthouse can’t properly accommodate all of the defendants at the same time.

Santa Barbara County Superior Court officials have been checking out potential locations ranging from the Santa Maria Fairpark, to the old Santa Maria Library.

They’re also trying to determine if a courtroom can be modified to handle the large group.

Court officials have some time to try to work it out, with the defendants next court date set for September.

Prosecutors believe the 28 year old Santa Maria man was tortured, and beaten to death over drug debts.
