A popular Central Coast air show which normally takes place in August has been cancelled, over financial issues.
Organizers of the “Thunder Over The Valley” show at Santa Maria Airport say federal budget cuts due to sequestration meant many of the military aircraft which help attract spectators would be unavailable.
In a letter to the community, Show Director Michael Geddry also said local fundraising effort fell short of goals.
The Santa Maria Museum of Flight, which is the parent organization for the show, made the final decision to cancel the event, which had been set for August 24th and 25th.
Geddry says those involved with the more than a quarter of a century old show are devastated by the situation.
Some of the show’s committee members are angry, and upset with the museum board’s decision.
