Authorities Say 55,000 Marijuana Plants Seized In Ventura County; Street Value Of $165 Million Dollars

Posted on Friday, July 19, 2013 1:20pm

A three month long investigation into marijuana growing operations in Ventura County led to the seizure of 55,000 plants, with a street value of $165 million dollars.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department airborne deputies, and narcotics detectives located multiple marijuana gardens north of the City of Ojai, in the Pine Mountain area.  Detectives set up stakeouts, which eventually led to the arrest of three Kern County men.  They believe two of the men supervised people who actually grew the marijuana, because they were caught dropping off supplies, and people.

The 55,000 plants were spread among seven plots on the north slope of Pine Mountain.  They had elaborate irrigation, and fertilizer systems.

Detectives are warning hikers in back country areas to be aware of the groves, because they say there are still some which are undetected, and some of the growers may be armed, and dangerous.
