A local congresswoman has authored legislation to try to save school based health centers from the budget ax.

Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps of Santa Barbara introduced the School Based Health Centers Act.

The legislation is designed to authorize funding past 2014 for the two thousand school based health centers which provide basic care for two million children who would otherwise go without some basic services.

Santa Maria High School is one of the schools which has one of the health care centers intended to provide essential health care services for students.
