Fireworks Go On Sale In Some Central Coast Communities; Firefighters Concerned About Additional Fire Threat

Posted on Friday, June 28, 2013 12:15pm

Firefighters on the Central Coast are geared up to deal with brushfires, as we move into what’s predicted to be an exceptionally hot weekend.

But, they’re facing another big concern as well.

Fireworks went on sale today in several communities in the region.

What have been labeled as “safe and sane” fireworks are legal in Santa Maria, Lompoc, Oceano, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Templeton, and San Miguel.

The fireworks are big fundraisers for non-profit groups in the region.

But, firefighters say they are concerned about the fire potential when they are misused.

Fire agencies warn that they will have increased patrols to crack down who use the fireworks in areas where they aren’t legal.
