Santa Barbara County fire investigators say a passing train triggered a brush fire which put on a big show for travelers on the 101 Freeway, but didn’t cause any serious damage.

The blaze occurred just after 3:30 yesterday, near Mariposa Reina in the Gaviota area.

It was windy in the area, but firefighters aided by a helicopter were able to contain the fire between the freeway, and the ocean to about an acre.

It caused freeway slowing during the afternoon hours, because it forced the closure of the slow lane on the southbound side of the freeway due to the firefighting activities.
