Posted on Monday, June 17, 2013 3:58pm

Police say mental illness may have been a factor in the stabbing in the neck of a sleeping man at a sober living facility in Santa Barbara by another resident.

A 53 year old man sleeping at Stalwart House, on the 1200 block of San Andres Street, woke up just after 6:30 Saturday morning when he was attacked, and found a knife sticking out of his neck.  The victim told police he saw Daniel Jack Andrick standing over him.

The victim called for help, and Andrick fled the scene.  He was arrested a few blocks away later Saturday morning.

Detectives say Andrick confessed to the stabbing.  The victims was seriously injured, but is expected to survive.
