Investigators Trying To Figure Out What Led To Confrontation Which Prompted Officer Involved Shooting In Ventura County

Posted on Sunday, June 16, 2013 7:22pm

Authorities are still trying to figure out why a man got into a confrontation with Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies which landed him in the hospital with mutiple gunshot wounds.

It happened just after 9 p.m. Saturday, in Westlake Village.  Deputies looking for a vehicle reported to be in a hit and run accident on Westlake Boulevard spotted it near Lakeview Canyon Road, and Agoura Road.  When they tried to stop it, it raced through a shopping center.

The officers say it then turned into oncoming traffic on Agoura Road, and intentionally rammed a patrol car.  The vehicle then started to back up directly towards a deputy on foot.  Fearing for his safety, the officer opened fire, hitting the driver, identified as Rogelio Gutierrez of Gilroy, multiple times.  The 33 year old man was seriously wounded, but is expected to survive.

The deputies were unhurt.
