Posted on Thursday, June 13, 2013 5:14pm

The federal Food And Drug Administration has approved a new use for a major selling drug from a Ventura County based biotech giant.

The federal regulatory agency okayed the use of Xgeva for a certain type of bone tumor.  It was previously approved as a treatment for some types of cancer, and osteoporosis, but can now also be used for what’s known as giant cell tumor of the bone.  The rare type of tumor can destroy bone as it grows, and is found in young adults.

Xgeva is one of the Thousand Oaks based company’s best selling drugs.
