Appeal For Financial Help From Community Clinics On South Coast Getting Big Response

Posted on Thursday, June 13, 2013 3:40pm

Three weeks after some community clinics on the South Coast announced they were facing a financial crisis threatening their future, officials say more than $50,000 has been raised through donations to help with the situation.

The Santa Barbara Community Clinics served more than 17,000 people in the last year at its four facilities.  Many of its clients have limited, or no insurance, and most can’t afford to pay regular rates for medical services.  Officials with the non-profit say due to changing business models in the medical field, they have been losing money for some time.

Clinic officials say they need to raise $1.5 million dollars to get through the next six months, while a series of reforms are being implemented to try to insure the organization’s long term financial health.

Donations include $15,000 from Pacific West Bank, $15,000 from the Mithun Family Foundation, and $5,000 from the World Dance for Humanity organization.
