Shock Over Arrest Of Ventura County School Teacher On Charges Of Sexual Conduct With Student

Posted on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 2:25pm

There’s shock in Ventura County over the arrest of a Simi Valley elementary school teacher, on charges she had a sexual relationship with a male student.

Garden Grove Elementary School teacher Malia Brooks is facing five abuse charges, including an allegation she committed a lewd act on a child.

The 32 year old teacher had been under investigation for the last few months, and had been placed on paid administrative leave in February.  She resigned from the district last week.  Brooks entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance today.

Simi Valley Police say there are no indications there were other victims.

Fellow employees say Brooks was a popular sixth grade teacher, and are shocked by the news.  She’s married, with two children.

Today was graduation day for sixth graders at Garden Grove school.  District officials say have made counseling available for those impacted by the situation.
