Victim Of 1982 Kidnapping, Rape In Ventura County Asks For Case To Be Reopened, With DNA Evidence leading To Arrest Of Suspect

Posted on Monday, June 10, 2013 7:34pm

A Kern County man has been arrested for a more than 30 year old kidnapping, robbery, and sexual assault of a Ventura County woman, thanks to DNA evidence.

The victim was attacked in February of 1982, in the parking lot of a supermarket on the 3700 block of West Hemlock Street. No one was ever charged with the crimes.

However, last fall the victim of the crime read about Oxnard police using DNA evidence to solve a decades old sexual assault, and murder, and asked detectives to reopen her case.

Using the DNA database which didn’t exist two decades ago detectives linked 55 year old Delton Lynn Taylor of Bakersfield to the 1982 crime.

He was already in custody in Arizona for another crime, and was wanted in Kern County for other incidents. Oxnard Police detectives say after Taylor is prosecuted in Kern County, he will be extradited to Ventura County to stand trial.
