Santa Barbara County Approves Plan To Hire 77 Workers To Help Swamped Social Services Agency

Posted on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 7:47am

A social services agency responsible for helping more than 100,000 people in our region is facing some big problems itself.

Santa Barbara County’s Department of Social Services is literally being overwhelmed, with its caseload climbing more than 50% in the last six years, without the help to match it.

The financially squeezed county doesn’t have the money to add positions to help. But, state and federal funding are now making it possible for the county to add some 77 new workers.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco has the story.
