Marathon Hearing Appealing New Oil And Gas Drilling Still Underway In Ventura County

Posted on Thursday, May 30, 2013 4:25pm

A marathon, day long hearing over a challenge by an environmental group to Ventura County’s approval of some onshore gas, and oil drilling projects is still underway at this hour.

Citizens for Responsible Oil and Gas is appealing the County Planning Staff’s approval of nine new wells, and the renovation of two existing wells in the Upper Ojai Valley.

The group contends insufficient environmental review occurred, and appealed the staff decision to the Ventura County Planning Commission.

The community group hired the Santa Barbara based Environmental Defense Center to help make its case at today’s appeal hearing, which has been going on for more than six hours.
