Ventura County Supervisors have decided to pursue efforts to require oil and gas companies seeking drilling permits to provide information about planned hydraulic fracturing operations.
The process, which involves the high pressure injection of fluids underground to try to get to trapped oil and gas pockets, has been controversial because of concerns about potential toxic wastes, and pollution.
The state is in the process of developing policies for handling fracking.
But, some Ventura County officials feel the county needs to be gathering information now. KCLU’s Lance Orozco has the story.
