Normally, a van with a camera mounted on its roof moving slowly through some Ventura County neighborhoods would be a reason to call 911.
But, Simi Valley Police say this van is actually on a sanctioned city project.
The City of Simi Valley contracted with the Trans Map Corporation for the company to do an inventory of all the signs in the city.
So, from now through the end of the month, the van is driving up and down streets, using its special gear to document signs. The van is marked, and says “Trans Map” in large black lettering on all sides of it.
