Teen Arrested After Simulated Explosive Devices Found In Vehicle In Goleta

Posted on Saturday, May 11, 2013 12:12am

A Washington State teenager with ties to Santa Barbara County is facing multiple charges, after authorities say they found him with some potentially dangerous simulated explosive devices.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department received a call Friday morning from police in Clyde Hill, Washington that the teen had taken a family car without permission, and was possibly in the Santa Barbara area.

Deputies found him at around 10:30 a.m. Friday, in the Turnpike Shopping Center, at Turnpike and Hollister.

When they talked to the teen, they say he claimed to have explosive devices in the vehicle. As a precaution, some nearby businesses were closed, and San Marcos High School was placed on lockdown.

The Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad says it found several simulated devices which were still potentially dangerous.

There was also an air gun which looked like a real weapon. No one was hurt. Authorities aren’t talking about what they think the teen was trying to accomplish.
