Man Who Escaped Pursuing Sheriff’s Deputies By Driving Over Cliff Finally Caught In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Monday, April 22, 2013 1:36pm

A convicted sex offender who led law enforcement officers on a chase, and then escaped by driving over a cliff is now finally behind bars in Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies say they saw Michael Ibison driving a stolen car outside of Lompoc April 14th. He ignored efforts to stop him. Deputies gave chase, but discontinued it when it topped speeds of 100 miles an hour in a residential area of Lompoc.

Deputies say the Los Alamos man drove the car over a 150 foot embankment, and escaped on foot. The 27 year old man was found in Los Alamos last night, when someone noted a suspicious car on their property. Deputies say Ibison was in the vehicle with his girlfriend.

He was arrested without incident for grand theft, felon evasion, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen license plates, and failing to register as a sex offender.
