Ventura County Ethics Commission Dismisses Complaints Against County Clerk; Clerk Says Supervisor Who Made Charges Should Apologize

Posted on Friday, April 19, 2013 5:36pm

The Ventura County Ethics Commission dismissed the final of five complaints filed by a County Supervisor running for re-election against the County Clerk/Recorder/Registrar of Voters.

Steve Bennett asserted that Mark Lunn failed last year to properly administer the county’s campaign reform ordinance. Bennett had been involved in a race to try to retain his First District Supervisorial seat, which he did last November.

The Commission dismissed all five of the allegations, releasing its decision on the last one today.

In a statement, Lunn says he and his staff feel vindicated, but notes the charges hurt the morale in his department. He called on Bennett to issue an apology to taxpayers, saying that the cost to respond to the charges totalled more than $100,000.
