Leaders in one Ventura County community are set to meet tonight in closed session to discuss a lawsuit they’re facing from their fired police chief.
The City of Santa Paula terminated Steve McKinnon last year.
City officials asserted McKinnon improperly used a city car for personal trips. But, McKinnon says he was told use of a vehicle was part of his employment package, and says it was in writing in the job offer extended to him in 2005.
McKinnon filed suit against the city, claiming the real reason he was terminated was that he had reported some potentially illegal actions by city officials to Ventura County prosecutors for investigation.
The lawsuit is one of three items on the city council’s closed session agenda, before it begins its regular meeting at 6:30 tonight.
