Charges Won’t Be Filed In Incident Which Left Child Burned In Santa Barbara

Posted on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 12:34pm

Santa Barbara County prosecutors say they won’t file criminal charges against a mother whose three year old was seriously injured when the little girl was left alone in a van which caught on fire.

Susie Figueroa suffered burns on her hands, face, and feet in the February fire.

Viviana Wink had left the little girl in the van on Santa Teresita Drive in Santa Barbara while she went into a home where she worked as a caretaker.

The van caught on fire, and the mother came and rescued the little girl, but not before the both of them were burned.

The DA’s office says the incident was what it called a tragic mistake in judgement, but that there is no proof criminal negligence was involved.

Fire investigators weren’t able to figure out why the van caught on fire.
