Status Of Pt. Mugu Airshow Up In Air After Headliner Act Cancels Rest Of Season Due To Federal Budget Cuts

Posted on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 5:45pm

There are major new questions as to whether a popular airshow at Naval Base Ventura County will take place as planned this coming September, with federal budget cuts putting its fate up in the air.

As KCLU News first reported in March, as a result of sequestration the season of this year’s planned headliner, the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, was likely to be cancelled early.

Today, officials with the precision flying team announced they will cancel the remainder of the 2013 season.

In the past, Naval Base Ventura County officials have cancelled the annual airshow in years when they couldn’t get a headliner act, like the Blue Angels, or the Canadian “Snowbirds” team.

It’s expected as the result of federal budget cuts, it would also be difficult to get some of the other military aircraft which are usually a part of the show.

Base officials are looking at the situation, but haven’t made any type of official announcement yet.
